Tucked away in western Yunnan, Tengchong is a rare blend of breathtaking landscapes and profound history. To the west of the city lies the Volcanic Hot Sea, home to nearly a hundred volcanic cones and geothermal springs, often called a “natural geothermal museum.” Here, visitors can witness the power of the earth and experience Tengchong’s unique hot spring culture. Yet Tengchong is not only about nature—it is also a land of memory. The National Martyrs’ Cemetery and Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall honor the sacrifices made during the Burma Campaign, a crucial chapter in modern Chinese history. Just a short drive away, the Heshun Ancient Town offers a different kind of charm: traditional courtyards, old libraries, and peaceful lanes, once a hub of cross-cultural exchange, now a living museum of heritage and quiet elegance.
